Pancreatic lesions remain a difficult diagnostic problem. This is particularly true of chronic pancreatitis and tumors of the pancreas. Pancreatic pseudocysts can be diagnosed indirectly only after they have exceeded a certain size and begin to displace air-filled structures in x-ray films of the abdomen or barium-filled bowel. Also, pseudocysts of the pancreas are frequently found in uncommon locations.
