Guthion® (azinphosmethyl): Organophosphorus insecticide

  • Conference paper
Residue Reviews

Abstract

The contact and ingestion insecticide Guthion®, commonly known as azinphosmethyl, was first field-evaluated against cotton insects in Mexico in 1954 and was registered for use on cotton in the United States in 1956. It is known as a broad-spectrum insecticide, but against certain species it is very specific. Dosages as low as two oz./ A, particularly if applied as ultra-low volume (ULV) sprays, are effective against the boll weevil without seriously decimating populations of parasites and predators of bollworms whi.ch may be present in the same fields.
