Abstract
On 9 and 10 January 1970 there was a study meeting held at the ‘Istituto Superiore di Sanità’ (Superior Institute of Health) in Rome, on the theme “Sanitary, technical, and normative aspects of materials in contact with foodstuffs,” organised by the State Administration of Health. More than 300 experts of the state, of universities, and of all the interested sectors of private industry took part in this meeting. Forty scientific reports concerning three main groups of problems were presented: a) general problems common to all materials in contact with foodstuffs, b) specific problems raised by individual types of materials (plastic materials, paper and paper-board, cellophane, rubber, tin-plate, stainless steel, aluminum, glass, ceramics, pigments and colouring-matters, coatings), and c) analytical problems.
