Abstract

In vascular microsurgery, as in extra- intracranial bypass operations, a certain percentage of sutured vessels is immediately or after varying periods of time obstructed by thrombosis. Bannister and Mundy(3) have shown on little vessels that badly sutured anastomoses were followed by endothelial changes in scanning electron microscopic (SEM) preparations. They assumed that suturing under tension, rough treatment with forceps, and distortion of the vascular wall could cause such intimal changes.
