Abstract
This paper summarizes briefly the content of a course of lectures held in Switzerland in 1974 on the general topic of software engineering. The course could have been subtitled “A series of talks across the academic-practical user interface: An area of computing characterized not so much by an interface as by a morass of misunderstanding.”
