Recent Advances in Erythropoietin Physiology

  • Chapter
In Vitro Aspects of Erythropoiesis

Abstract

It is well established that the rate of erythropoiesis, both under normal and tissue hypoxia conditions, is largely or totally regulated by erythropoietin (Ep).1–3 It is therefore of crucial interest to elucidate the mechanisms underlying both renal and extrarenal Ep production. Recent studies from our laboratory that focused on these aspects are presented here.
