Abstract
In most instances of dermatologic irradiation, the lesions to be treated are quite superficial and the tolerance of normal tissue, with the exception of the skin, for radiation is not a serious consideration in the techniques used. There are some exceptions to this generalization, such as the treatment of a squamous cell carcinoma of the ear which has invaded the underlying cartilage. In this chapter we will review some of the techniques and equipment used in therapeutic radiology and some of the considerations of normal tissue tolerance in planning a course of radiotherapy.
