Abstract
Rapid changes in the types and quantities of pesticides used by agriculture have been occurring for at least the last 3 decades. Chemical pesticides have replaced ineffective cultural practices and new more effective, broader spectrum chemicals have replaced old chemicals. Persistent expansion in the number of pests controlled by pesticides has resulted in the emergence of chemical pest control as an integral part of the production process for most agricultural commodities.
