The terrestrial resource inventory allows determination of each stand’s gradient indices from maps, aerial photographs, and fire history information without field sampling or visiting each stand. These inventory data either may be recorded in advance for specified areas and stored on a computer or may be coded on the spot whenever resource information retrieval for a given site is required.
