Abstract

As is true for the species distributions of herbs and shrubs under a canopy, only a few obvious differences among the three major drainage units used in this study were noted for nonforested communities; the drainage areas therefore are combined for most of the following discussions. These communities are viewed first in terms of the primary succession mosaic, then in terms of the major component species, and finally in relation to the major disturbances that affect them.
