Abstract

The prognosis of these injuries depends basically on whether and to what extent the functionally critical anatomical structures of this region (flexor tendons and nerves) have been damaged (Figure 104). Every wound on the volar side of the hand raises the possibility of an accompanying tendon or nerve injury, and the division need not lie in the plane of the skin injury. Glass splinter wounds are particularly notorious in this regard.
