Abstract
Brief spells of a high-pitched cough, without production of mucus, are observed in the following diseases:

Acute infections (adenovirus, enterovirus, myxovirus, etc.) of the upper airways with laryngotracheitis, with tracheobronchitis, or, in infants, with transition to bronchiolitis. Dry cough occurs characteristically in incipient pertussis or in the early stages of measles.
