Abstract
Although papers dealing with pattern recognition have been appearing in the literature for more than twenty years, and in ever increasing numbers, the subject itself cannot as yet be said to be clearly outlined as a scientific discipline. Most of the papers represent either projects for some electronic circuitry or ad hoc algorithms for solving concrete applied problems. The value of such studies depends primarily on the experimental results that have been obtained.
