Abstract
The two ladies preceding me have said all there needs to be said about the scientific data as it pertains to Depo-Provera. They have told you in succinct fashion the risks, side-effects, possible and probable complications. I can do no better. What I can do is to tell you what I think family planning is all about. Having defined that, I would like to tell you, philosophically, the difference between the person who walks into my office asking for a contraceptive device and the person who walks in with a “disease”—and then to explain to you as best I can how I think that person makes the choice of what contraceptive method she wants. I would like to impress upon you that I think that each of you has the right to make the decision concerning what method of contraception you want to use, but also to impress upon you that I am not bound by that decision, either professionally or personally.
