Abstract

Patricia and Martin Norman are English. They were married as soon as Martin graduated in engineering. He joined a large engineering firm and was soon known as one of the up-and-coming young men in the field. He and Pat had two children, and the whole family became very much involved in church and community activities. Fifteen years later Martin was offered an excellent position with the Canadian branch of his firm, and he accepted readily. His parents had recently emigrated to Canada, and he looked forward to joining them. The change also gave him a chance for a fresh start since, in the last few years, he had been subject to bouts of depression and self-doubt and had been criticized for the quality of his work. Once settled in Canada the Norman family became involved once more in church and community, but Martin’s problems did not disappear magically.
