Abstract

At the time this case study was made, Gary Findley was thirty-three years old. He is the middle child in a family of three. His older sister is a teacher, happily married with a young family; his younger brother earned his master’s degree in chemistry, is now in charge of the lab for a large processing company, and is happily married. Their father was in the armed forces overseas when Gary was born and as a result didn’t meet the boy until he was two years old, when he returned to civilian life as a professor of geography at a state university. When Gary was twenty-eight, his father died. Even before her husband’s death, Ms. Findley had worked part-time in a baby clinic, and since his death, she has lived alone, but is very active socially, and still works part time.
