Abstract

The case history we shall discuss here was the subject of a considerable amount of newspaper publicity and an inquest at the time it occurred. The material available is therefore considerably more copious and complex than is that in most of the previous histories. In order to treat it as accurately and comprehensibly as possible without risking undue length, we will at times summarize some of the inquest material and at other times quote directly. The complete transcripts of the inquests, as well as our interviews, are, of course available to any student who has a serious interest in the case. We follow our usual practice of changing names and places.
