Abstract

The theory of cosmological baryosynthesis has presumably a long history[1] but it is only a couple of years ago[2] that the subject became well motivated in the context of modern gauge theories. Since then, many papers have appeared and the basic mechanism of baryon production is well understood by now. One can even discuss at a semi-quantitative level what kinds of constraints are imposed on grand unified theories by the cosmological baryon production. I shall discuss in this talk those aspects most relevant to models of grand unification. With a specific model given, one can derive mass bounds for superheavy particles, constrain the way CP violation is incorporated etc. One can even exclude some “minimal” models. It would be fun to see how the single event of matter creation in the distant past and the single number[3], the baryon to photon ratio NB/NΥ ~ 10–9,  left over from this event, can tell us something about microscopic physics.
