Abstract
The kidney, because of its anatomic location in the flanks, can be imaged through more ultrasonic windows than any other abdominal organ. As a result, one has a greater chance of obtaining good images of this organ than of more central intra- or retroperitoneal organs which possess fewer ultrasonic windows and can more readily be obscured by overlying gas-filled bowel.
