Oxygen: An Overall Biological View

  • Conference paper
Oxygen and Living Processes

Part of the book series: Topics in Environmental Physiology and Medicine ((TEPHY))

Abstract

It seems that the oxygen we are breathing today was synthesized in massive stars. When these stars exploded as supernovas, the oxygen was released into the interstellar clouds. Our sun and solar system were born from such a cloud, containing the previously synthesized oxygen (Herbig, 1981).
