Abstract

How is the conceptual representation of a passage constructed during comprehension? How are inferences and expectations generated? How are erroneous inferences and expectations disconfirmed? A psychological theory of discourse processing must eventually address these questions. The question of how conceptual graph structures are constructed on-line during comprehension will be explored in this chapter.
