Abstract

Circulation of blood through bone has a dual function: to supply nutrition to this structure and to contribute to the maintenance of homeostasis by acting as a depot for many ions and cations of body fluid. Although bone is a highly vascular tissue, experimental and clinical data regarding the architecture of its arterial and venous systems and the physiologic and pathologic responses of the local vessels are in many instances contradictory and fragmentary.
