Vascular Complications of Therapy in Musculoskeletal Disorders

Part 1 Iatrogenic Vascular Entities

  • Chapter
Vascular Problems in Musculoskeletal Disorders of the Limbs

Abstract

The utilization of appliances and conventional operative procedures for common orthopedic or general surgical difficulties has, on occasion, been responsible for disastrous vascular complications, even gangrene necessitating a major amputation of a limb. Although such situations have most often developed in patients with an underlying impaired local arterial circulation, at times a similar adverse response has been noted in persons with a previously normal local blood flow but subjected to heroic therapy. This chapter deals with various aspects of the problem.
