Abstract
Queuing network models have been used extensively in recent years to describe the behavior of computer systems. The validation of a computer system model lies in the predictive ability of the model. The predictive ability is also the model’s primary asset.
In this paper, we test the predictive ability of a computer system model when user files are relocated. A queuing network model is constructed. An “optimal” assignment of user files to system I/O devices is found by perturbing this system model. The file assignment is then implemented. Actual and predicted performances are compared.
