Abstract

The surgeon who undertakes the management of any hand injury or disorder must have extensive knowledge of hand anatomy and kinesiology, tissue healing principles, postsurgical management, and upper extremity rehabilitation if satisfactory results are to be achieved. Even deceptively straightforward procedures such as ganglion excision or nerve decompression may result in disaster for the unprepared novice.
