In this chapter we discuss sufficient conditions for the existence of an optimal control for the general problem:

Here, f, f0 are given continuous functions with values in Rn and R, respectively, ℐ(t) ≡ 0, and t1 (which depends on u(·)) is the time at which the response arrives at the target.
