Abstract
Spinal surgery has always been considered one of the most difficult and demanding forms of surgery. The first spine fusion was performed in 1911 by Hibbs at the old New York Orthopaedic Hospital. The patient had tuberculosis, and a posterior fusion operation was performed to immobilize the spine and control the disease process.
