Abstract
The world of scoliosis has undergone radical changes during the last thirty years. The advent of the Milwaukee brace, in 1946, by Blount and Schmidt, gave a much greater percentage of satisfactory results by nonoperative treatment than had previously been obtained. The Harrington instrumentation technique, and to a lesser extent the Dwyer technique, have greatly enhanced the operative correction of the scoliotic spine. Better plaster techniques have also proved helpful in maintaining good operative correction.
