Abstract
A knowledge of dermatology is essential for every physician, regardless of his specialty. A wide variety of disorders show important cutaneous manifestations, and disorders of the skin itself account for a substantial portion of medical care. A family physician may see up to 20% of his patients for dermatologic complaints. It is estimated, for example, that l%–2% of the world’s population suffers from psoriasis,* and although many cases are admittedly mild, almost all of these patients desire treatment.
