Protein Glycosylation

Most proteins synthesized on membrane-bound ribosomes in mammalian and yeast cells are glycoproteins. Usually the oligosaccharides are N- or O-linked to asparagine and serine/threonine residues, respectively. Glycosylation is initiated in the rough endoplasmic reticulum and completed in the Golgi apparatus.
