Abstract
French positivist philosopher, 1798–1857, who developed a science of man in which he attempted to apply the methods of science to the problems of man and that he thought would resolve all social problems caused by industrialization. To this end, he even invented a religion, elaborate in its detail, with a new calendar of saints, festivals, and so on.
