Abstract

The following problem has been treated by Robinson (1980). Consider the uptake of B-methyl-glucoside in a small piece of the intestine of the guinea-pig. It is believed that the uptake is due to an active membrane transport which is governed by an enzyme like reaction of the form \( \text{V} = \frac{{\text{V}_{\max } \text{C}}}{{\text{K}_\text{m} + \text{C}}} + \text{K}_\text{D} \text{C} \) where C is the concentration of B-methyl-glucoside, and V the uptake. The constant Vmax represent the maximal rate of uptake, Km an affinity constant and KD a diffusion constant.
