Abstract

Diaphragmatic hernias are divided into those with extension of abdominal contents through the hiatus, which is true of the common hiatal or sliding hernia and paraesophageal hernias, and those that extend through defects of the diaphragm elsewhere, frequently referred to as congenital diaphragmatic hernias.
