Abstract
Relational database machine FREND is presented in this paper. Different from conventional database machines, FREND has been developed for composing distributed systems in accordance with personal computers and a local area network. Since it consists of a16-bit micro-processor and small disk units, FREND is a small scale and cost-effective database machine. Overview of FREND is described. Then processing structure and optimization of query processings are explained. In order to demonstrate that FREND could apply to practical usage, its performance is evaluated finally.
