Abstract
It goes without saying that if changes in the methylation of particular sites in DNA can cause changes in gene expression, then aberrant changes may lead to aberrant patterns of expression and possibly to cancer. What we shall review in this chapter is whether treatment of cells with carcinogens can lead to changes in DNA methylation, and whether or not tumor cells are characterized by higher or lower levels of methylcytosine in their DNA.
