Abstract
The problem of stroke seemed simple 30 years ago. There was no recognized therapy and few methods available to study patients for an understanding of basic mechanisms of their disease. In fact, the pathophysiology was understood poorly—or not at all. The prevailing notion was that vasospasm of a cerebral vessel caused most strokes. The chapters in these volumes, as well as other current books, detail this accumulation of knowledge thoroughly. 76,92,130
