Design and Compliance Considerations of Dietary Intervention Trials

  • Chapter
Vitamins and Cancer

Abstract

Clinical trials are widely used and accepted as the best method to evaluate the effect of therapy or prophylactic interventions. The design of cancer prevention trials are based on the same principles as cancer therapy trials (Peto, et al, 1976). However, there are a number of important differences in the methodology, logistics and costs of prevention trials as contrasted to therapy trials. A clear recognition and careful consideration of such differences provide a better study design resulting in improved evaluation of cancer prophylactic interventions.
