Abstract

One objective of this research was to produce control programs for the SSA walking machine. This chapter contains a description of the machine and of its particular properties that made the walking task tractable. The first section gives a brief description of the machine’s physical attributes. The second section describes the natural motions provided by the legs of the machine. The third section describes the important features of the control electronics. The fourth section is a short tutorial on hydraulics. A more detailed description of the machine is given by Sutherland [58].
