Abstract

Although the theory of class and class conflict stands at the center of the Marxian paradigms, Marx nowhere fully explicated this theory. Chapter 52 in the third volume of Capital was reserved for this purpose but it remained unwritten. Attempts at a text-immanent reconstruction of this chapter are still being made. Such attempts, however, remain dubious; they are mostly too narrowly conceived. It is certainly not without reason that this concluding chapter was discontinued after only one page: It would have destroyed the theoretical framework of the book.
