Abstract
The challenge of the early development of vascular surgery was to learn and refine the basic techniques of reconstruction: endarterectomy and bypass grafting. Now, standard vascular operations are performed worldwide on a daily basis. Subsequently, as these techniques and better prosthetic grafts became widely available, their uses and limitations became better defined.
