Abstract
Although the event of ecdysis, when the old cuticle is shed, is brief compared to the morphogenetic and synthetic developmental program that must precede it, nevertheless ecdysis is a particularly vulnerable time in the insect’s life, a periodically repeated crisis when the risks of injury and predation are high, (see Reynolds, 1980).
