Abstract

In this chapter we investigate polynomial approximation on polytopes in Rm, m ≥ 2. A modulus of smoothness will be introduced and its behavior will be related to the rate of polynomial approximation. It will turn out that in many cases the problem of polynomial approximation in several variables can be reduced to that of ordinary polynomial approximation on a finite interval.
