Abstract
The two principal themes of this set of essays are:

the need for a fundamental reassessment of software engineering based on emerging software technologies and a more fundamental understanding of the programming process;

an economic analysis of the software development process that will provide criteria for selecting the best ways of achieving program quality and high productivity.
