Abstract

Mid-trimester abortion is responsible for a disproportionate share of adverse experiences associated with the termination of pregnancy. In the United States, abortions performed at 13 weeks’ gestation or later accounted for 11% of Online legal abortions during 1972–1977, for an estimated two-thirds of Online major complications, and for 57% of Online known fatalities. It is important, therefore, to review the levels and trends of mid-trimester abortions throughout the world, the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of the women obtaining them, and the methods used for their performance.
