Abstract

In principle the accurate solution of the governing equations with appropriate boundary and initial conditions will reveal all required information in any particular problem. However, the equations of motion are so complex that only rarely can exact solutions be found, and any method of approximation of the equations requires first an understanding of the broad, general, physical principles with which any approximation must be consistent.
