Abstract

Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) in children is considerably more resistant to chemotherapy than acute lymphoblastic leukemia where the progress is well known and well documented (1,2). In recent years, however, more aggressive chemotherapy has resulted in an increasing proportion of children who obtain a complete remission. With intensive consolidation therapy, the proportion of children remaining in complete remission is also increasing, but long-term survival figures of more than 40% has not been reported (3–5).
