Abstract
The months flew rapidly by, and every month was the same. Like a pendulum, the BenaBena river swam its ominous, beautiful arc between two ranges of hills a few miles apart. Crows and cockatoos filled the air with strident alarms, voracious and quarrelsome. Their tearing voices in no way ruffled the peaceful existence of the Goroka valley. Kestrels poised like small black pins in the sky. Parakeets, swirling like trails of wind-blown leaves, called in great excitement across the gardens. And nowhere was there anxiety among the birds, only boldness in song and presence.
