Photography of the Sun and Stars

  • Chapter
Challenges of Astronomy

Abstract

Here we begin discussing the radiant energy from natural cosmic bodies, in particular from the Sun and stars. It was recognized that distances could be found through comparisons of brightness well before the first measurement of stellar parallax by Bessel in 1838. We begin where Johannes Kepler first explored—with the inverse square law for light.
