Screening for Pathogenic DNA Sequences in Clinically Collected Human Tissues

  • Chapter
Ancient DNA

Abstract

The sources of DNA discussed in this chapter are not nearly as old as those covered elsewhere in this book and, indeed, can hardly be considered “ancient” at all. Yet within the realm of diagnostic clinical medicine, for whose purposes these specimens are most often prepared, they are about as old—with the possible exception of certain extraordinary forensic or archaeological investigations—as any human tissues examined.
