Hormones and Cancer

Part of the book series: Hormones in Health and Disease ((HHD))

Abstract

Except for skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women. It accounts for approximately one-third of cancers in females in the United States. In 1994, the American Cancer Society estimated that 182,000 new cases of breast cancer would be diagnosed in women and 46,000 women would die of the disease. In contrast, breast cancer in males is rare, with only 1000 new diagnoses and 300 cancer-related deaths expected in 1994 (Boring et al., 1994).
